Media Artists Ring in the New Year

Meet MAC Registry Artists on State Street, New Year's Eve!

The Media Arts Council (M.A.C.) invites you to enjoy the artwork of Media area artists Drew Arata and Bob Deane in the First Keystone Bank Window Gallery, 22 West State Street, Media, (view Google Map). Original sculptures and drawings are on display through mid-January in this accessible site on State Street, with a festive twist for New Year’s Eve.

In honor of Media’s annual New Year’s Eve celebration and Ball Drop, the artists will adorn their exhibit with hats, streamers, and festive decorations and will be present to toast to visitors during the free, outdoor celebration. Live entertainment begins at 11pm, State & Jackson Streets, just across from the First Keystone Bank Window Gallery. (PDF Flyer)

Find Earth & State on Facebook! Arata creates art focused on music and the interactions between musicians and the audience, concentrating on charcoal drawings and sculpture. He is also the owner of Earth and State, and is an active supporter of the Media Arts Council, Media Business Authority and the Media Fair Trade Movement.

Deane is recognized for his pottery created from clay from local creeks. His work has been exhibited extensively in local galleries and stores, and he is currently an instructor at the Community Art Center.

The work on display at the First Keystone Window Gallery represents collaboration between the two artists, offering visitors a unique opportunity to appreciate artwork that was inspired and created in the Media community.

The M.A.C. Window Gallery space was made possible by a grant from the Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts and the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance, as well as the generosity of the First Keystone Bank.

 This CD features talented singer/songwriter/musicians from the Media, Pa, area singing songs about the holiday season, recorded primarily at the Linden Lane Studio. Proceeds from the CD benefit the PA Breast Cancer Coalition (pabreastcancer.org) and spotlight amazing songs written across the musical spectrum, from blues to Native American music, zydeco and folk, with material related to the holiday spirit, from Christmas to peace. Each song features a different Media musician, with the title song featuring vocals from all artists on the CD. "Peace On Your Way" is produced by Wayne G. Harvey, executive produced by Wayne G. Harvey and Tom Mullian, with participating assistance by Drew Arata from the Media Arts Council. Look for shows featuring all the artists from the CD so that you can pick up your copy! Great for your seasonal collection or as a gift for friends and family!

On the 2nd Saturday of every month, over 40 businesses on and around State Street in Media stay open late as part of a free arts event. From 6:00 to 9:00 pm, shops, galleries and cafes host local musicians or display the work of local artists. Visitors can stroll the friendly streets of Media and use M.A.C.'s map to find music, art and participating shops.

" The lights are lit, the first snow has fallen...what better way to get into the holiday spirit than a festive, art-filled evening with family and friends at Media's 2nd Saturday Arts Stroll! Enjoy the sights, sounds and shopping opportunities of friendly downtown Media.

Holiday Concert by Peace on Your Way musicians
(#10 on the 2nd Saturday Map) 7:00pm -7:45 pm

Whatever your holiday, you'll enjoy the tunes at this month's main event-a holiday concert by Peace On Your Way musicians at 7pm at the Delaware County Institute of Science. Media area singer/songwriters/musicians perform diverse musical styles from blues to Native American music, zydeco to folk.

Proceeds from the Peace On Your Way CD benefit the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition. A great gift idea for anyone on your list!

Imperfection © 2006 Madeleine KellyGive yourself a treat and take a look at the vibrant work of this month's featured artist Madeleine Kelly. She is an award-winning artist whose art is grounded in impressionism, but often borders on the abstract, who creates landscapes, portraits and still life work in watercolor and pastel. Her work is in display at the Court Diner.

More Holiday Events!
Finish up your holiday shopping at the unique shops and galleries in downtown Media... 12 locations will display artwork including painted silk, pottery, paintings, student artwork and photography. And when you're ready for a shopping break, warm up with the music performances at 16 locations including a gospel choir, Native American flute, folk, rock, and more! You can also take part in lapidary demonstrations, tango, Reiki, and even Santa's Village. There's something for everyone at this free, family-friendly event.

Trio Lococo

Trio Lococó, November's main event, performed World Music with a Middle Eastern flair, enhanced with Flamenco guitar work and song. The group also plays traditional rhythms from across Latin America and Spain incorporating the Spanish flute, accordion, cajon, tamborello and many other hand percussion instruments. Sandy Stevenson

Sandy Stevenson, the featured artist this month, enjoyed music by the Mad Beggars Band and dinner with her husband. Her artwork can be seen throughout the month of November at location #21 on the 2nd Saturday map.

This award-winning artist paints the sea, coastlines and deserts she encounters in her travels. Her work has been described as luminous, with compelling light and mystery. Stevenson has studied with a number of internationally known artists and has created art in Mexico, Southeast Asia and China.

About 2nd Saturday in Media:

2nd Saturday is this Weekend! November 2009


2nd Saturday is here again with a fun-filled night all along State Street. This month's Arts Stroll is November 14th from 6 - 9pm. While you're out find a 2nd Saturday Map and have fun visiting all of the unique locations.

Trio Lococo is #18 on the map. Click this image to view all of the locations."World Rhythms" "This month’s Main Event is Trio Lococó, performing at the Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union (#18 on the map,) at 7pm. Trio Lococó performs World Music with a Middle Eastern flair, enhanced with Flamenco guitar work and song. The featured artist this month is Sandy Stevenson whose work will be on display at Sweets ‘n Stuff, (#21 on the map). Local musicians including Square Wheels, Michelle Garza, and others will also perform a holiday preview show at the 2nd Saturday Arts Stroll, promoting their CD of seasonal songs “Peace on Your Way” which benefits the PA Breast Cancer Coalition."

Media Arts Council Film Festival Call for Entries 2010


The Media Arts Council (MAC) of Media, Pennsylvania, held its first Film Festival in February, 2008. Owing to its great success then and in 2009, we are continuing it a third year. The Call for Entries continues to be directed to local, national and international filmmakers. We have set the date and are now calling for entries from local and other filmmakers.

Films will be accepted in four categories—Narrative, Documentary, Animation, Experimental, and three lengths—Feature Length (40 to 90 minutes), Short (5 to 40 minutes) and Short-Short (under 5 minutes).

Deadline: December 1, 2009

Thanks to all of the visitors who viewed the free public photography exhibit, and many thanks to the M.A.C. volunteers who helped make this show such a success. Media ICONS (& Beyond) Juried Photography Exhibit Opens this weekend!



2nd Saturday in Media
The Media Arts Council (M.A.C.) announces the unveiling of the 3rd Annual Media ICONS (& Beyond) Photography Exhibit.

The Opening Reception will be held Saturday, October 10, 6-9 pm at 323 West State St, Media, during the 2nd Saturday Arts Stroll. (View the 2nd Saturday map!)

The exhibit features more than 30 finalist photographs, selected from numerous entries from professional and amateur photographers. Works were selected by Tsuyoshi Ito, Director of Project Basho, a photography resource center in Philadelphia.



Awards will be presented at 8pm during the Opening Reception, with one winner and one honorable mention in each of two categories: works focused on subject matter within the borough of Media, and works with subject matter beyond the borough boundaries.

Visitors are invited to browse this exhibit, reflect on the beauty and interest of Media, and enjoy live music and a refreshing evening event. Photographs are also available for sale.

This annual event not only focuses on the many unique perspectives of Media but opens the door for expressive photography originating anywhere outside the borough. The exhibit highlights some of the finest photography found in the Delaware Valley with an interesting mix of landscapes, natural and found subject matter, portraits and conceptual creativity.

This year’s contest and exhibit are sponsored by First Keystone Bank. The temporary gallery space has been contributed by Media Real Estate. Media ICONS (& Beyond) will be on exhibit for at least one week, through the Media Jazz by Night Celebration on October 17.

The Media Arts Council is a non-profit arts organization working to support local artists and integrate a wide range of arts into the life of the entire community of Media, PA. Photo Recap - Annual Food and Craft Festival, MBA

The Media Business Authority hosted another successful "Media Food & Crafts Festival this year! Held on Sunday October 4th 10am - 5pm, the sun shined strong after a very gloomy week and State Street was packed with visitors from the entire Delaware County area and beyond. The appetizing scents of American, and International fair from local restaurants, and eateries, filled the air and noone could resist the delicious temptations.

Musicians and local artists also showed off their talents. Visitors shopped for quality arts and crafts then crowded around the various live entertainment. Be sure to check the official website of Media, PA for upcoming events!



The Keystone Dixieland Band played in front of the Veteran's Memorial




Registered Artist of the M.A.C., Anne Marie Palita, with her professional photography display.

A couple of Anne Marie's photographs are also included in the upcoming Media ICONS (& Beyond) Juried Photography Exhibit. Which will be held on October's 2nd Saturday at 323 West State Street, Media PA 19063, 6pm - 9pm during the Monthly Arts Stroll.

Fine Art Festival in Rose Tree Park last weekend

The Community Arts Center in Wallingford hosted the annual "Fine Arts and Crafts Festival" in picturesque Rose Tree Park this past weekend, September 26th and 27th. The rain held out on Saturday and was a very well attended event. Many talented artists filled the field with their unique artwork and the following photographs are of M.A.C. Registered Artists.
