"A Certain Something" Images of Past and Present
by M.A.C. Registered Artist Helene Miller

Opening Reception: Tyme Gallery

  • 5 - 9pm
  • Free to the public
  • Catered with hors d’ oeuvres from Antonella’s Italian Kitchen
  • 17 W. Eagle Road Havertown, PA 19083 (view Google Map)
  • Exhibit runs from January 8th - February 9, 2010
Artist's Bio:

Helene Miller accepts the Inner Essence award from Tyme Gallery's owner Edna Davis"My first camera was a Brownie Hawkeye. I loved taking photos of my family and was always fascinated with family photo albums and their documentation of life in the moment. While raising my 4 children I found a creative outlet in textiles but I have now returned to my love of photography. The intimacy of the relationship between photographer and subject, however brief, is important to my work. I create both in my darkroom and digitally but work mainly with film as I find it to yield richer results.

My style is photojournalism and what I like to call "un-portraiture". I search for life's little absurdities. Odd things capture my attention. I have a particular fondness for people, children especially. One may also feel a theme of loneliness throughout my work both with human subjects, and other inanimate objects. The cameras that I currently use are the Mamiya 645M, Voightlander rangefinders, Pentax LX and a variety of medium format inexpensive cameras, including the Brownie Hawkeye. Music inspires my mood, deep and moving like Edith Piaf or Billie Holiday, or upbeat like Big Joe Turner or Dr. John. I am an old fashioned Jersey girl but have lived in the Philly area since 1975"

Hope to see you there!

Don't forget... this Saturday, January 9th, is 2nd Saturday in Media.
